Christian Amaya Garcia is a visual artist based in New York.
He works with video, drawing, and sculpture, using performance as a mode of research. His practice examines the body as both score and material to reinvent and reframe how the body moves, appears, or belongs in relation to abstraction. He engages failure of singular truth to channel rupture and refusal as gestures that contest racialized instability and surveillance.
Amaya Garcia received his BFA in Painting at Lehman College and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in 2023. He was awarded residencies and fellowships at Smack Mellon (2024-2025); the Vermont Studio Center (2023); FABnyc (2023); and the Sara Little Turnbull Foundation (2022).
He is currently a 2025-2026 Participant at the Interdisciplinary Art and Theory Program in New York, NY.
